interesting passage

While reading Chapters 11 through 13 of Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, I found many interesting discussions. I thought it was interesting that slave owners won't let you read or write. People were telling Linda's master that she was receiving letters. They then came in in search of letters, or more importantly in search to rat Linda out. The white man found a box in Linda's room and gave her orders about how wrong this was of her. I found Linda's response to the white people to be very dignified. Linda calmly told them, after the men accusing her of receiving letters from black people, that most of her letters came from white people. "O, no; most of my letters are from white people. Some request me to burn them after they are read, and some I destroy without reading." I enjoyed reading this passage because Linda stayed calm and stood up for what is right without getting angry.

i agree with you on your idea of linda standing up for herself. though i did not write about this exact passage on my blog, i also find this passage interesting. why do you think linda burned some of the letters without reading them? why were all of her letters from white people.

good job. :]
