Chapter 6 and 7 Response

In this chapter, chapter six, Nick tells us the truth about how Gatsby makes his money. Gatsby is not really being truthful because he lies and cheats to become rich and powerful. When asked to speculate why Gatsby makes up lies about him being wealthy, I think that he only wants daisy. Gatsby is willing to do anything to “get” her to love him. On page 110, Nick explains why Gatsby is the way that he is. Nick says, “He talked a lot about the past, and I gathered that he wanted to recover something, some idea of himself perhaps, that had gone into loving Daisy.” I think that this quote shows how in love Gatsby is with Daisy. Gatsby is so in love and stuck in the past he can’t move on without having Daisy in his life. Gatsby knows that Daisy enjoys rich people, so Gatsby lies about how her makes his money. I think the reason Nick doesn’t tell us about Gatsby’s lies earlier in the book is because we wouldn’t think Gatsby was the nice person we all thought he was.
