last chapter- huck finn

What do you make of the last chapter? Is this a happy ending for Huck and Jim?
When Tom was shot in the leg, Jim had the chance to run away and become a free man. Jim chose to stay back with Tom as opposed to becoming a free man. This shows that Jim really cared for Tom and didn't want Tom to suffer. Jim got respect from the white men when they heard that a black man was being nice and called a doctor to save Tom from dying from the gunshot wound. The only thing that made things not extremely happy was the change in plan that Tom created. Things would have been a lot easier if they would have stuck with their original plan. Everyone had a happy ending except for Huck. He was struggling with the fact of being civilized. Overall a majority of the characters had a happy ending. I think the point of this book is trying to tell us that blacks should be treated the same as everyone else. We see this when the white people are impressed by Jim's actions towards helping Tom with his leg. I believe that the most important person that needed a happy ending, received a happy ending, Jim.

I agree about how when Jim stayed back instead of running away, that he really cared for Tom. Jim only did that because he thought that Tom would do the same thing in his position. It is unfortunate that Tom most likely would not do what Jim did. Good job Katie!!

This is a good blog Katie and I especially liked the part when you discussed Jim not running away when Tom got shot. I agree with you when you said that Tom should not have made that complicated plan because it totally backfired. I also agree that Jim has a well deserved happy ending. Good job!

Yeah Katie I agree that the ending was happy-ish for the people and I thought you made a good point bringing up Jim not running away because it shows that he and Huck had bonded throughout the story. But this could mean an unhappy change of events when Huck and Jim get separated by society.
